Terms about Wave/Land/Weather
Japanese | English | Description |

アウターリーフ | Outerleef | Reef break on off-shore. |
アウトサイド | Outside | Break wave point is the line-up, off-shore. |
インサイド | Inside | The area of whitewater where the waves have broken, between the shore and the line-up. |
うねり(スウェル) | Swell | Swell or groundswell refers to solid, real waves. |
オフショア | Offshore | This is when the wind at a surf break is blowing off the shore. It makes for ideal surfing conditions. |
オンショア | Onshore | This is when the wind is blowing towards the land, spoiling the waves. |

カレント | Current | Flowing of tide. |
グッフィーブレイク(レフトブレイク) | Left break | A wave that breaks from right to left from a surfer point of view when facing into the shore. |
グラッシー | Glassy | This is when there is no wind on the ocean creating optimal conditions with wave and ocean surfaces resembling glass. |
クローズアウト | Close out | It is a wave with no shape that breaks in one swift moment. Closeouts usually allow you to take off and then get smashed as they have no shape. Close outs are also referred to as straight handers. |

シャロー | Shallow | Shallow sea such as sharp and coral reef. |
ショアブレイク | Shore Break | A wave that breaks right on the shoreline. Usually with no shape and a close out. |
スープ(ホワイトウォーター) | White Water | White water is prevalent after a wave has broken. |
セット | Set | Word to describe waves which come in a batch together of more than a few waves at a time. There is a period between sets where no waves are coming in at all. |

ビーチブレイク | Beach Break | This is a wave that breaks over a sandy sea bed. |
フェイス | Face | Bottom surface of wave. |
フラット | Flat | No waves. No surf condition. |
ブレイク | Break | When swells start to break and turn into waves then turn into surf or any form of broken water producing white water on the ocean. |
ポイントブレイク | Point Break | It is one surf point that bottom is rock and coral reef. Wave is broken regularly. Reef Break is one of it. |
ボトム | Bottom | Bottom of wave. |
ホロー | Hollow | Tubing waves, a-frames, barrels. |

マッシー | Messy | Waves that close out, break irregularly and that are not ideal to surf on. The opposite of clean surf, generally caused by an onshore or cross-shore wind. |
メロー | Mellow | Very slow wave without speed. |

リップ | Rip | Rips are currents that form taking you out to sea. They can usually be identified by a sandy discoloration of water or choppy to choppier patch of water than else where on the beach. |

リバーマウス | River mouse | Wave is occured by accumulated stones on river mouse. |
レギュラーブレイク(ライトブレイク) | Light break | Thw wave is broken to right side from ocean to on-shore. |
